On Yojiro Kake – Interview for The Florentine

In June 2015 ISI offered an exciting new course in Fashion Journalism. The class focused on writing about style and design in Florence and enrolled students from various ISI partner universities.  Professor Emeritus Mark Bernheim and his blogger assistant Alessandro Masetti worked with the group for 6 weeks on the acquisition of journalism skills, ‘tailoring’ their writing on Italian design.  Most excitingly, the students spent a memorable day at the “Pitti Uomo 88” fashion show in Florence and in this blog they wrote about the thousand clothes viewed and about young designers, stylists, and fashion bloggers met during the show.

The local newspaper “The Florentine” published a selection of the interviews students wrote for the Florence Fashion Week. Here it is a link to the interview with fashion designer Yojiro Kake by Paige Roseman.

for mens- and womenswear.  He was born in Hyogo in 1983 and soon after finishing high school he began his fashion studies at the Ueda Yasuko School of Fashion in Osaka. After graduating, he worked within a private company as a pattern maker and designer, but soon realized the need to return to study fashion to rediscover and establish his own ideas, beliefs and creativity. He left the company and made the life-changing decision to study at Polimoda in Florence, before launching his own eponymous label in 2012. I visited with Kake’s fashion partner Oka HuiYun Lin to learn more about their brand and vision.
